More than 3 days in Corfu Itinerary

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. There’s a lot of ground to cover on your stay in Corfu.

Corfu island has so many things to do and sites to see.

First you can visit Glyfada or Kontogialos beach.

The beach of Glyfada, which is almost in the opposite direction to the city and is orientated to the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic, is only 18 km away, which will take you about half an hour of driving. The route is delightful, in the lush nature of Corfu, while the beach is fully organized, sandy, with clear blue-green waters. There you will find the Pazuzu beach bar. Kontogialos beach is very popular among the locals, especially the young as it is relatively close to the city (13 km) but, it is also one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. It resembles the adjacent Glyfada beach. There you will find the Nagual beach bar. At Konogialos you may have an unforgattable paragliding experience. if you are interested about that just let us know and we can arrange it for you. Furthermore Glifada and Kontogialos are the ideal places for watersports lovers. Activities included paragliding, wakeboarding, waterskiing tube riding and much more no experience necessary.

Next you ascend to the nearby village of Pelekas, just 4 km away. Pelekas is known for the Kaiser Observatory, or Kaiser’s Throne, a location with panoramic views of the plains and the most famous sunset of the whole Island.

23 km northwest of Corfu Town you will find Paleokastritsa which is is arguably the most famous picturesque village of the island of Corfu. he word Paleokastritsa literally means old fortress, witnessing the existence of such a castle on the rocky cave where now stands the Monastery of the Virgin.

Paleokastritsa offers a plethora of local taverns overlooking the blue bay and six sandy and pebbled beaches which are scattered all around the area. Those beaches are surrounded by olive tree forests creating a dramatic yet beautiful scenery. At Paleokastritsa you may visit a small boat in order to discover the hidden beaches of the area. If you are interested for a boat rental in Paleokastritsa let us know.

At the end of the road, right after the main harbor is the Monastery of the Virgin that dominates the village. The monastery hosts an interesting collection of post-Byzantine icons, books and other objects. At Paleokastritsa you may also rent a small boat in order to explore some hidden beaches like “Paradisos” (Paradise) and caves. No driving license is required. On the North part of the island you can visit Sidari Village with the famous Canal d’amour beach. Near Sidari is Peroulades village and the beach of Loggas. The view from ”7th heaven” café which is located there are breathtaking.

On the North part of the island is Kassiopi village.

Kassiopi is its touristy, commercial and economic center. It was once a picturesque fishing village and has been transformed into a beautiful resort with lovely, rocky beaches and lush vegetation.

For your lunch or dinner at Kassiopi you can visit Tavernaki traditional taverna and Trilogia restaurant. Both are located near the sea.

Corfu is not only beaches 🙂

Visit Corfu city. Walk to Spianada, the largest square in the Balkans, where the cricket games take place on the island – because of the British rule, Corfu has a tradition in cricket – we see various monuments and sights. For example, the Maitland Peristyle, the circular building surrounded by twenty columns of Ionic style, is located on the south side of the square and was built in honor of the Englishman Sir Thomas Maitland in 1816.

Visit the old fortress. The well-preserved buildings, such as the Doric temple of St. George, built in 1840, the Schulenburg Statue, the Marshal who defended the Old Fortress successfully, repelled the Turkish attack in the 18th century, the Venetian prison, the military chapel, two barracks and even the English Military Hospital where the music school now operates give us a very good picture of the glorious past of the fort while Mandraki, the small port full of boats, with the beautiful Soranza gate wait for us in the north Side of the fortress. Stone stairs lead to the highest fortification level of the Old Fortress, where you will enjoy panoramic views of Spianada and the Old Town, the bay of Garitsa and Vido, the small island that is very close.

Go to the area of Kanoni in Corfu, right next to the town, where Pontikonisi and Panagia Vlahernon are located.
From the cafes, you see the most famous picture of Corfu: The green Pontikonisi in the middle of the narrow bay and in front of Panagia Blachernon.

You descend the stairs and the picturesque chapel, built on a small island in the Chalikipoulou lagoon, is in front of us. You cross the narrow stone path and we are in the monastery’s enclosure, built according to testimonies in the 17th century, while in about 1980 the last monk who lived there left.

Pontikonisi is full of tall cypress trees and other plants of rare beauty and is named after its shape, as if seen from above it looks like a mouse!
What the dozens of photos from Pontikonisi have not shown you are … the airplanes. Corfu airport is very close, and the landing and take-off corridor starts through the lagoon. Thus, the aircraft pass at a very low altitude above Pontikonisi, creating a unique spectacle, either seen from above or from the pier, from where you will see them literally passing over your heads!

You can also stop at the also famous Mon Repos. The green estate of Mon Repos is part of the archaeological site of Palaiopolis, the most important ancient city of the island. The palace of Mon Repo was built in 1831 and after the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece it was given to King George to use it as the summer palace until 1967. King George I gave the estate the name that was established: Mon Repos, which means “my rest”.
The ruins of the largest ancient temple of Corfu are very close to the palace, and you will also see the best preserved temple of the island. The Palace of Mon Repos itself consists of two main buildings of neoclassica style, strictly symmetrical with each other. The verdant garden that surrounds the villa is equally impressive, with more than 2,000 species of plants, from smaller herbs and flowers, to towering trees!

Finally you can also go little more south to the famous Achilleion, the palace of Empress Sissy. It is located in the village of Gastouri, ten kilometers southwest of the city of Corfu, in the olive groves and the green nature of the island. There we take a stroll between the great works of art and end up in the lovely garden of the palace, from where we admire the endless view.

For your lunch or dinner wander back into old town and visit Efi’s Alley restaurant. Ask for Kimonas. Tell him you are a guest of Vacedo and he will take great care of you.

If you are a fun of Italian cuisine visit Limoncello restaurant. Ask for Vaggelis or Fotis. Tell them you are a guest of Vacedo and he will take great care of you.

At Garitsa Bay you can visit Komissa restaurant. Ask for Jimmys or Thanassis. Tell them you are a guest of Vacedo and he will take great care of you.

For something alternative you can try Taverna Massa near the port. The owner’s name is George, apart from traditional recipies you can also try Buffalo steaks which you won’t find anywhere else in Corfu. Ask Thanassis to tell you the specials.

Later on you can have a beer at Iznogood Bar. Ask for Vardis. Tell him you are a guest of Vacedo and he will take great care of you.

If you’re looking for a unique experience of discovering products from Corfu and all over Greece, don’t miss the opportunity to visit Bakalogatos store. Ask for Giorgos and tell him you’re a visitor of Vacedo, and he will guide you through the Greek world of flavors and aromas. Bakalogatos store is located at Scholemvourgou 5 in Corfu town.

Greece is hot specially during the summer, so don’t forget the sunscreen.
